Can timedrop.it read my letter?

No. Your letter, photos and voice note are encrypted on your device before they reach our servers, so what we store is unreadable ciphertext. The keys live with you and your recipient alone. We couldn't hand your words to anyone even if we were asked to.

What happens on the unlock date?

We email the recipient a link the moment the capsule unlocks. Opening that link is what decrypts the contents. Until that date arrives, the capsule stays sealed, there's no early-open button, by design.

Can I open it early, or change the date?

Accepted Answer

You can't open it early. The time-lock is the whole point, and breaking it for you would mean we could break it for anyone. You can edit or cancel a capsule any time before it's sealed; once sealed, the date is fixed.

What's the difference between private and public?

Accepted Answer

Private capsules are seen only by you and your recipient, ever. If you choose to make one public, the recipient still receives the private link first and on the unlock date the letter also appears, anonymously, on the public wall. You can keep your name off it entirely.

How far ahead can I schedule?

Anywhere from one week to ten years out. Pick a preset or set an exact date. We've engineered the delivery system to be durable across that whole span. Your future date is a real commitment.

What if I lose access to my email?

The recipient's link is the key path, so it's worth choosing an address that will outlast a job or a phone. You can add a backup recipient before sealing. We'll also re-send the link a few times around the unlock date if it isn't opened.

Yes, your first capsule, with a letter, photos and a voice note, is free with no card required. Additional capsules and longer storage are paid, and that’s how we keep the encryption and the lights on for the decade your letter is waiting.
